One of the world’s most talked-about rums, Montecristo, is poised to earn even more loyal fans as it introduces Montecristo Spiced Blend, the latest addition to its award-winning portfolio that includes Montecristo 12 Year Aged rum and Premium Blend white rum. Even before its national launch, the Spiced Blend garnered a Gold Medal at the prestigious San Francisco World Spirits Competition in March of this year.

Image“We traveled the world to find a rum worthy of the Montecristo name,” says Tim Haughinberry, president of Montecristo Rum.  “After visiting several countries and sampling dozens of rums, our journey took us to Guatemala where we discovered the finest rum in the world.”

Montecristo Rum has won praise from a wide range of experts. Martha Stewart named the Montecristo Rum Pineapple Mojito—a creation by master mixologist Francesco Lafranconi—“spectacular!” The 12 Year Aged rum was named the Best Rum of 2002 by Wine & Spirits magazine, and that same year, was given a Superb rating of 95 from Wine Enthusiast. Hot on the heels of those accolades, it earned a Double-Gold Medal at the 2003 SFWSC. In fact, Eric Felten of the Wall Street Journal in 2006 that the 12 Year Aged was “as easy to drink as it was elegant” “and one of my favorites of the bunch.” The distiller’s Premium Blend white rum is also an award winner, picking up a Gold Medal at the 2005 SFWSC.

Montecristo Spiced Blend is a smooth, maturely flavored and aged rum with a hint of spice. It is ideally suited for sipping straight up or on the rocks, and its mixability makes it the perfect partner for any rum-based cocktail, whether it be a Cuba Libre, a classic rum and cola or more exotic concoctions such as a Fresh Ginger Mojito, created by Wolfgang Puck’s star mixologist.

All of Montecristo’s rums meet the most exacting standards demanded by today’s increasingly sophisticated consumers. They are premium rums, made from the juice of pure, virgin sugar cane that has been harvested by hand, as opposed to the more mechanized methods used by other rum manufacturers. The 12 Year Aged and Spiced Blend are then hand-blended by master distillers and aged in American oak barrels that had previously been used for Kentucky’s finest bourbons. The tempered wood imparts a velvet texture, rich flavor and beautiful gold hues to Montecristo’s rum.

Both of Montecristo’s rums are viewed by experts and the public as favorite super-premium brands across the country. “We are pleased with Montecristo’s status as the new ‘it’ in the spirit industry.  Since our introduction, we have really swept the social scene, challenging other rums in the category, as well as other popular spirits,” reports Haughinberry. They have met with huge success in every city they’ve been unveiled in, and are the rums of choice everywhere from the exciting nightlife of Las Vegas to the discerning fine-dining centers of San Francisco and New York City. With such an outstanding track record, Montecristo Spiced Blend is sure to be the third jewel in this world-renowned distiller’s crown.
